Struggling Dodgers begin trek in Milwaukee

Baseball Betting Lines

05/13/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brad Penny will try to rebound from a horrible outing when he takes the hill tonight for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who will open a six- game road trip with the first of three straight matchups against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

Penny had a four-start winning streak stopped last Wednesday versus the New York Mets, as he surrendered a career-high 10 runs on 10 hits in just 4 2/3 innings of a 12-1 decision. Penny gave up 10 hits for the third time in his eight starts this season and fell to 5-3 with a 4.79 earned run average.

His previous worst outing was on June 29, 2003 as a member of the Florida Marlins, when he gave up nine runs in an 11-7 loss at Boston.

The bulky right-hander is 3-2 with a 4.74 ERA in seven career games against the Brewers.

Los Angeles will try to stop a four-game losing streak on Tuesday. It was just swept in three games by the Houston Astros at Dodger Stadium, including an 8-5 loss on Sunday. James Loney hit a two-run homer and Blake DeWitt had three hits and scored twice for the Dodgers.

Reliever Jonathan Broxton was crushed for six runs in just one-third of an inning for the Dodgers, who got a strong outing from starter Hiroki Kuroda. Kuroda carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and allowed a run on one hit over 6 2/3 frames, striking out five batters and walking three.

The Dodgers will also visit the LA Angels of Anaheim for three games on the current road trip.

Milwaukee will resume a seven-game homestand on Tuesday after taking three of four games from the St. Louis Cardinals. The Brewers won the last two installments of their series with the Cards, including Monday's 8-3 victory in the finale of the set.

Ryan Braun hit two home runs for the second straight day, while Corey Hart went 2-for-4 and knocked in a pair of runs for the Brewers. Bill Hall added a solo homer and Mike Cameron finished with an RBI and a run scored.

Brewers starter Dave Bush limited the Cardinals to a run on four hits over six innings to pick up his first win of the season. Guillermo Mota then recorded his first save of 2008 by getting the final out of the contest.

Carlos Villanueva, who gets the starting nod for Milwaukee tonight, has been struggling this season, having lost two straight starts and recording an 0-4 mark over his previous six trips to the mound.

Villanueva, who is 1-4 with a 6.46 ERA in seven starts this season, was reached for seven runs and 10 hits through five frames of a 7-2 loss Thursday at Florida. Six days prior to that loss, Villanueva yielded six runs and nine hits in five innings during a 7-4 setback at Houston.

In two career innings of relief against the Dodgers, the right-handed Villanueva sports a 0-0 record and a 13.50 earned run average.

Los Angeles and Milwaukee split six meetings last season, with the Dodgers going 1-2 at Miller Park. LA is 12-6 in the past 18 matchups in this series.
